Wreckage of UN helicopter found off coast of Sierra Leone

A Ukrainian search and recovery team yesterday found the remains of the MI-8 helicopter which plunged into the sea shortly after takeoff while en route to Lungi Airport on 7 November with seven people on board, the Mission said. Recovery efforts were continuing, and so far, the bodies of three of the victims have been found.Also on Thursday, the deputy commander of the UN peacekeeping force in Sierra Leone, Maj. Gen. Martin Luther Agwai, visited the Kenyan Battalion stationed in the western town of Masiaka, in Port Loko District.Gen. Agwai toured some of the rebuilding projects completed by the Kenyan Battalion and later presented to two local schools stationery donated by the contingent. In an address to teachers, pupils and parents, he commended the community for providing a helpful environment for the Kenyan peacekeepers.Last week, the Kenyan Battalion handed over a Seventh Day Adventist church built by its troops to the community at Masiaka. read more
