Xavier defeated Providence 78-69 this afternoon. Musketeer forward Jalen Reynolds tied for the team lead in points with 19, while point guard Dee Davis dished out 15 assists. Together, the two combined on a ridiculous fast break alley-oop.Check it out:Davis’ pass is a risky one with no one back on defense, let alone with a defender right there. And give credit to the Providence defender for reading the alley-oop and trying to make a play on it. Unfortunately for him, trying to make that play and actually doing it are two different things, especially with Reynolds above the rim like he was. [ H/T: @RobDauster ]
Twitter/@ChrisPorterFCNToday’s game in Athens has been nothing short of a debacle for Georgia. The Dawgs trail Alabama 24-3 late in the first half, having allowed two quick scores via blocked punt and 50-yard play action bomb, and now Georgia is making a change at quarterback. Redshirt sophomore Brice Ramsey is in to replace Greyson Lambert.Brice Ramsey is entering at QB for Georgia— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) October 3, 2015Yup, Brice Ramsey in with 35 seconds left in the half. Not much you can do here, but he may get a shot in the second half.— Seth Emerson (@SethEmersonAJC) October 3, 2015Lambert has struggled, completing just 7-of-17 passes for 70 yards. If Ramsey can’t give Georgia a spark, this one could get extremely ugly.
It was if Rhian Brewster had never been away. Back at Prenton Park, back in the goals. On Thursday evening, the striker’s first-half brace set Liverpool on their way to a comprehensive 6-0 win over Tranmere in their first pre-season friendly of the summer. For Brewster, it was a significant evening at a ground where he has previously shone at youth level. If this is to be a big season for the 19-year-old, he has started it in perfect fashion. Article continues below Editors’ Picks ‘Everyone legged it on to the pitch!’ – How Foden went from Man City superfan to future superstar Emery out of jail – for now – as brilliant Pepe papers over Arsenal’s cracks What is Manchester United’s ownership situation and how would Kevin Glazer’s sale of shares affect the club? Ox-rated! Dream night in Genk for Liverpool ace after injury nightmare “It’s mad how far you can come in a year,” the Londoner reflected afterwards. “This time last year I was out injured, I was here watching the boys play against Tranmere and this year I’m here playing.” Not only playing, but shining too. Leading the line for Jurgen Klopp’s mix-and-match team, Brewster showed significant glimpses of why Anfield staff have such high hopes for him.His goals were predatory, both of them converted from inside the six-yard box, one with his head from a Harry Wilson cross, one after James Milner’s shot had been pushed out by Scott Davies, the Tranmere goalkeeper. Before that there was an assist, a nice pick-out for Nathaniel Clyne, who hammered home the opener after just five minutes, and throughout there were signs that the youngster’s touch and movement will allow him to become a top-level player in the future.“I’m loving every minute of pre-season,” Brewster added. “It’s tough, don’t get me wrong, but I’d rather be out there than on the treatment bench.”Klopp, perhaps a little surprisingly, chose to downplay things afterwards. The Reds boss rounded, playfully, on a reporter who asked about Brewster’s performance.“It is 2019,” he said, “We should stop talking about the boy who scored two goals and overlooking what others do in the other 89 minutes.“Rhian, I love the boy, he is a fantastic player but one of the goals I could have scored!”Still, he found time to state, once more, that this will be “a big season” for Brewster, who spent close to 16 months on the sidelines after serious injuries to his ankle and knee sustained playing for Liverpool’s under-23 side.“He is a top striker, a top talent and I have told him already that he has an important role this year,” Klopp said. “But how important? It depends on him. We will see.”There is definitely a squad space available, given Daniel Sturridge’s departure last month, though Klopp was right to point out that the presence of Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi, who also scored at Tranmere and who signed a new long-term contract this week, means Brewster must add variation to his game in order to thrive.“He has to play different positions as well,” he said. “The centre, the wing is possible, I think.“We will see how we line up, but there will be opportunities for him, I am sure.”Certainly, Brewster will back himself to make his mark at Anfield. Though yet to make a senior first-team appearance, the teenager lacks nothing in terms of confidence. “I know what I want in life,” he told Goal in an exclusive interview a year ago, in which he floated the idea of playing himself into contention for England’s Euro 2020 squad. That may seem fanciful, but confidence in a young footballer should not be discouraged. And if the testimonies of his Liverpool coaches and team-mates are anything to go by, Brewster has more than a fighting chance. They think the world of him at Anfield.Liverpool pulled out all the stops to keep him on Merseyside last year, amid strong interest from the Bundesliga. RB Leipzig and Borussia Monchengladbach made approaches – Gladbach’s cost them a showpiece friendly at Anfield that summer – and Brewster seriously considered heading to Germany, such is his desire to play regular first-team football.“I want to play at the highest level, for club and country,” he told Goal. His chance should come in the coming weeks and months. Klopp’s faith is strong enough that he will resist the urge to push for a new, big-money centre-forward this summer, and it is telling that Sturridge, Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke have been allowed to leave the club in the last 12 months.Liverpool see Brewster as the future, a player who will be part of their club for years to come.As for the man himself, he’s just happy to be on the field again. “I’m taking every moment as it comes,” he smiled. “It’s great to be back out there.”Liverpool’s pre-season friendly at Bradford on Sunday (3pm UK time) will be used to raise awareness for former player Stephen Darby’s new foundation.Darby played for both clubs, but was forced to retire aged just 29 after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease. The Maghull-born defender, who is married to England Women’s captain Steph Houghton, has recently set up the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation, which now has an official partnership with Bradford. The foundation’s branding will appear on the shorts of the Bantams’ new away strip, which will be worn for the first team against the Reds at the Northern Commercials Stadium this weekend. In June, members of Liverpool’s under-23 and under-18 teams raised more than £4,000 for the foundation by climbing Mount Snowdon, and it is hoped that the high-profile nature of Sunday’s game – a crowd of around 24,000 is expected – between two of Darby’s former clubs, will help generate further funds. LINCOLN, NE – SEPTEMBER 08: Head coach Scott Frost of the Nebraska Cornhuskers leads the team on the field before the game against the Colorado Buffaloes at Memorial Stadium on September 8, 2018 in Lincoln, Nebraska. (Photo by Steven Branscombe/Getty Images)With the early signing period opening on December 19, it is crunch time for college football recruiting. The Nebraska football staff has been working a ton, especially without a bowl game to prepare for, and four-star defensive end Lloyd Summerall is a major target.Summerall is a Lakeland, Fla. native, and is thought to be leaning toward the local power programs in the state.247Sports‘ crystal ball has the Florida Gators with 94-percent of the votes, with Florida State capturing the remainder.Scott Frost thinks Nebraska football can make a late push for Lloyd Summerall, and brought his entire staff to recruit him.The Lakeland football program tweeted about the visit on Tuesday. Thanks to @coach_frost and the ENTIRE STAFF from Nebraska for stopping by to check out our guys and our program AND TELL US CONGRATS!! ?⚓️?⚓️?#NAUGHTS #HUSKERS @HuskerFBNation pic.twitter.com/fOi1kh33X8— Lakeland Football (@LHSDreadnaughts) December 11, 2018Summerall visited Nebraska during the season, and got to see the Huskers beat Michigan State on senior day. He got to see snow for the first time, and called the trip a “perfect 10.”From Rivals, after the visit:Asked to sum up his visit to Nebraska and to give it a rating, Summerall concluded:“It was a perfect 10!” Summerall said emphatically. “Nah, it’s not the case that I am for sure going to end up [at Florida our Miami]. It’s between me and God. No one really knows where I will go, but on December 19 everyone will find out. Not this week, but next week Nebraska will probably be coming by for an in-home visit.”Summerall is the No. 237 player in the class of 2019. 247 ranks him No. 15 among weak-side defensive ends, and No. 36 in Florida.Pulling him out of the Sunshine State won’t be easy, but if Frost didn’t think there was a chance, he wouldn’t be pulling out all the stops like this.

(Photo by Justin K. Aller/Getty Images)With Kyler Murray no longer part of the NCAA, the next two-sport phenom may be none other than Mac Hippenhammer. The wide receiver for Penn State also plays right field for the baseball team.Coming out of high school, 247Sports had Hippenhammer as a three-star recruit. While his skillset could be raw at times, it’s evident that his athletic ability is off the charts. In limited action this past season, Hippenhammer totaled 103 yards and a touchdown on only six receptions. Once the ball is in his hands there is a good chance he can do some damage. As for his baseball career with the Nittany Lions, Hippenhammer currently has the third-best batting average on the team. The pressure of playing two sports hasn’t disrupted his production. When talking about his two-sport career, Hippenhammer revealed that he prefers to stay silent about his business. From Centre Daily Times:“That’s always how I’ve been,” Hippenhammer said. “I’ve always just been quiet and gone about my business and competed. I think a lot of my friends can tell you I’m a competitor, and that’s what I like to do.”“This year, I just told myself to control what I can control,” Hippenhammer said. “And when I’m back to the football team, all I’m going to do is work at it and, once I do that, I think everything will be all right.”Penn State’s football team can use another playmaker on offense with Miles Sanders and Trace McSorley now in the NFL. Perhaps Hippenhammer’s success on the diamond will carry over to the gridiron. We’ll see if he can take another leap in his third year with the football program.[Centre Daily Times]

Harbhajan Singh on MS Dhoni run out in IPL 2019 final: It was a tough decision to makeSpeaking exclusively to India Today, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh came up with his thoughts on the MS Dhoni run out in the IPL 2019 final between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians that left the social media divided.advertisement India Today Web Desk HyderabadMay 13, 2019UPDATED: May 13, 2019 21:54 IST MS Dhoni was run out in the 13th over when Chennai Super Kings were cruising in their run chase of 150 (AP Photo)HIGHLIGHTSMS Dhoni was run out for 2 as CSK lost the IPL 2019 final by 1 runSocial media was divided over Dhoni run out as certain replay angles were inconclusiveShane Watson hit 80 but it wasn’t enough as Chennai faltered in their 150-run chaseChennai Super Kings off-spinner Harbhajan Singh on Monday said MS Dhoni’s run out was one of the key points where the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019 final drifted away from them in their 150-run chase against Mumbai Indians on Sunday.Revealing the 1-run defeat was heartbreaking for CSK players, Harbhajan Singh added the 3-time champions wanted the MS Dhoni decision to go their way in the tense final at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.Chennai Super Kings were dealt a huge blow during their chase of 150 when MS Dhoni was adjudged run out after the skipper and their season’s top-scorer tried to steal a second single.Speaking to India Today, Harbhajan Singh said: “Well, we would have liked MS Dhoni’s decision to go in our way. If you see, the angles… from one end it looked out, from one end he looked to have made it.”It was a tough decision to make. A lot of times it’s been said that the decision should be given in batsman’s favour. In Dhoni’s case, it wasn’t given. I think it’s one of the key points where the game drifted away from us. Apart from that, I didn’t think we built enough partnerships. Watson almost pulled a miracle for us. But it wasn’t enough in the end.”Mumbai Indians’ Ishan Kishan appealed after a direct hit at the non-striker’s end after which the third umpire was called in for the final decision.Third umpire Nigel Llong took a long time as replays were arguably inconclusive. As Harbhajan Singh pointed, from one angle it looked no part of Dhoni’s bat was beyond the crease when the ball hit the stumps while another angle hinted Dhoni had made it on time.advertisementHowever, the decision went against MS Dhoni and the CSK skipper had to depart for 2. The third umpire’s call left the social media divided and CSK’s 1-run defeat highlighted the importance of the decision.I ask all people msdhoni was run out yes or noI say not out kiyoki muskil dissison bestman ke paksh me jana chaiye pic.twitter.com/u5Z8iV28osNitish MsDhoni fens 99%floow back (@NMurlipur) May 12, 2019Shane Watson came with a single-handed effort as he smashed 80 from just 59 but Mumbai Indians’ Lasith Malinga successfully defended 8 runs and picked up a wicket in the final ball to seal their 4th IPL title.Mumbai Indians’ icon Sachin Tendulkar opined that MS Dhoni’s run out was a huge moment in the fourth final meeting between the two arch-rivals.”The key moment was Dhoni’s run-out. But also in patches when Bumrah bowled those critical to even out Malinga’s one poor over was also crucial. And the last over, thought Malinga finished the game out beautifully,” Tendulkar had said.Meanwhile, Harbhajan Singh heaped praise on Jasprit Bumrah, saying the Mumbai Indians pacer is key to India’s chances of winning the 2019 World Cup, starting May 30 in England and Wales.”Jasprit Bumrah showed why he is No. 1 because he is not just performing in the shorter formats. Even we went to Australia, he performed well. In fact, he was one of the main reasons why we did well there,” Harbhajan said.He added: “To be honest, he was the only bowler Mumbai could rely on. Apart from him, we let Mumbai’s spinner (Rahul Chahar) get away with very few runs. I think we made lot of mistakes in the end as a team. But I think Jasprit Bumrah has been a special talent for Mumbai Indians.”If we’re going to win the World Cup, his form and fitness need to be right up there as it was for Mumbai Indians.”Also Read | IPL 2019 final was paisa vasool for fans but CSK players heartbroken: Harbhajan SinghAlso Read | Mumbai Indians’ victory parade brings city to a halt as fans celebrate IPL 2019 winAlso Read | MS Dhoni was really heartbroken, never seen him like that, says Sanjay ManjrekarAlso Read | Watch: Rohit Sharma raps with Yuvraj Singh as Mumbai Indians party hard after IPL 2019 winFor sports news, updates, live scores and cricket fixtures, log on to indiatoday.in/sports. We were on the floor at the Outdoor Retailer 2016 Show this time around to not only pick our favorites, but also to launch our new Best In Show awards. Whether you’re a die hard climber, thru-hiker, or trail runner, this is the must have gear that will be hitting retailers soon.Related: Outdoor Retailer Winter 2016Outerwear: Columbia OutDry Extreme ECO ShellColumbia’s new OutDry Extreme ECO will upend the entire outerwear market. It uses no PFCs (perfluorinated compounds), all thread, trim, and zippers are made of re-purposed materials, and there are no dyes. This jacket will never need to be retreated with a DWR because of the “inside-out” nature of the OutDry Extreme membrane. We can’t wait to test one.Boots: Forsake TrailForsake’s line up has been around since 2013. In that time they’ve managed to revive classic styles, incorporate waterproof and comfort touches, and make damn fine boots. The new Trails will hit the market this month. Their classic silhouette and functional outsole make them the perfect choice for urban to trail use.Running Shoes: Underarmour Horizon FTKWe picked up our pair of the Horizon FKTs (short for Fastest Known Time) at the Show. A quick run the day after had us sold. The mid and outsoles work in tandem to help you run in an ideal biometric position. The Michelin rubber outsoles grip everything from loose dirt to rough granite. It doesn’t hurt that they look amazing as well.Flip Flops: Hari MariIn a sea of ultra technical gear, it was nice to spot a simple product that nails comfort and style without needing all the extra flash. Made with buttery smooth nubuck and full grain leather the Fields and Lakes models were an instant stand out. We will have a pair stashed in our pack and clipped to our climbing harnesses for those down moments around camp and at the crag and we recommend you follow suit.Sunglasses: SunskisSunskis new Olemas frames are without a doubt some of the most gorgeous frames we’ve ever seen. That they’re affordable, comfortable, and have excellent optical quality makes them a deal you shouldn’t pass up when they hit retailers and Sunskis’ website early next yearRelated: The North Face Homestead CollectionUltralight Gear: Granite Gear Crown 2Expanding on the venerated Crown V.C. 60, the Crown 2 slims down materials with a high tensile nylon body. In doing so, they were able to add in a proper lid, and stronger webbing for compression. The result is a purpose built hauler for even the most discerning thru hikers. Don’t just take our word for it though. Our friends at Packing It Out have been carrying them all year as they hike the Pacific Crest Trail cleaning up garbage as they go.Tent: Tepui White LightningRoof top tents are having a serious moment right now in the outdoors and overland community. Until now though, we’ve be hesitant to get one because they monopolize your entire roof rack space (which we need for bikes, skis, and SUPs like any proper dirtbag). Tepui’s new White Lightning hardshell tent allows you to throw a rack on top of it, and will support up to 150 pounds even while open.Camp Kitchen: SnowpeakWe’re big fans of Snowpeak, so when they launched a new camp oven and titanium personal cookset, we were beyond excited. Like all their camp kitchen products, these feature careful attention to design, and serious durability.Lifestyle Brand: United By BlueUnited By Blue continues to impress us with their eco-friendly line up. For spring they are continuing their program of cleaning up coastline not simply by writing checks or pledging portions of sales, but working with their retailers and consumers to get one pound of trash removed from waterways for each product sold.Climbing Gear: Wild Country REVOThe REVO is truly revolutionary. As a bi-directional belay device, it will aid in locking the rope down should your climber fall – no matter which direction it is inserted. This is the perfect tool for beginners and pros alike for its ease of use and bomber design. Expect to see these at every local gym and crag soon.Cooler: Igloo Welded CoolersIgloo’s welded coolers are waterproof and leak proof. Using natural enzymes and essential oils, All Good cuts out aluminum, propylene glycol and pthalates. We recommend the Tea Tree & Basil.Sun Protection: Ursa MajorSunscreen is a must for any adventure in the wilderness. Ursa Major’s new daily defense lotion is perfect for skiers, hikers, and climbers who are always on the go. Its spf 18 rating and natural moisturizers are perfect for wind and sunburned faces in the backcountry. Just don’t be surprised when your significant other steals your bottle.Packs: Arc’teryx Bora ARThe Bora is one of the most iconic trekking packs ever built. For 2017 the Bora AR reintroduces the line with Arc’teryx’s new RotoGlide frame system. It pivots as well as slides vertically, allowing your pack to move with you no matter the load. We got a sneak peek before the show when we were in Vancouver at their headquarters in July, and were blown away how comfortable it made a forty-plus pound load feel.Emerging Technology: Enerplex KICKR FL Solar PanelsUsing Enerplex’s unique flexible film solar cells, the new KICKR FL panels are the lightest we’ve ever seen. By decreasing much of the backing material needed, you can easily haul enough solar power into the backcountry to power all your essentials from GPS units to DSLRs.Food: OMealsOMeals’ innovative heating system means you can ditch the stove when you need to go light and fast. The food is fully cooked and sealed. All you need is to add water to their biodegradable heater, drop it and your food pouch into the outerbag, and you’ll have a hot meal ready to go in minutes.Hydration:MSR Trailshot MicrofilterWeighing in just over a quarter of a pound, the Trailshot filter is perfect for ultralight hikers and ultrarunners. It will filter bacteria and protozoa on the fly (although for virus filtering you should step up to the Guardian). The best part? Cleaning it is a breeze. All you have to do is fill it with potable water and shake it a little bit and it will run smoothly again.Technical Apparel: Adidas Agravic Alpha Shield HoodyIt seemed that every brand had a new Polartec Alpha Insulation piece ready to go for this coming spring. However, Adidas ultralight Agravic Alpha Shield has them all beat. Windproof outer fabric works in combination with a thin layer of core insulation for the perfect summit day piece – and it weighs in under six ounces. We are drooling at the chance to get it out for some fast and light ski mountaineering missions this coming spring.Lighting: Gear Aid LanternsGear Aid has been helping us keep our tents, packs, and apparel in working order for years. Naturally, when we spotted their first foray into gear we were pretty stoked. The ARC and SPARK lanterns are perfect for around camp use. They also double as batteries, so you can keep your phone charged up to get that perfect sunrise instagram shot. The lights’ temperature is tunable, so you can have a warm yellow glow for dinner, or bright white spot lights when you’re searching for that missing beer that rolled under the truck. The ARC will mount to tripod or RAM mounts, letting you really light the night when you’re out on the water or around camp.
Similar to the way a stylish rug beautifully ties a room together, a proper set of accessories has the uncanny ability to dramatically elevate one’s personal style. Despite the system of accessorizing seeming to be one of fashion’s core tenets, finding a suitable one-stop-shop is like finding a needle in a haystack. Knowing this to be true, entrepreneurs Adam Schoenberg and Cory Rosenberg — who first met and bonded at a wedding over a shared affinity for colorful socks — elected to alter this unfortunate fact facing the men’s fashion world and founded the accessory-centered business, Hook & Albert. As the duo built its foundation by offering an extensive selection of timeless accessories, it wasn’t long before Hook & Albert began dabbling in the sector of travel. From carryalls and portfolio bags to weekenders and accessory totes, the business soon offered more than just standard outfit-accompanying fare. With summer right around the corner, two of Hook & Albert’s essential travel items look perfect for any amateur or avid traveler: Its water-resistant Overnight Bag and the pocket-heavy Dopp Kit.Concerning the Overnight Bag, Hook & Albert outfit its new signature not just with a water-resistant exterior but also includes a clip-in laundry bag, water bottle pocket, and shoe bag making it a prime companion for any gym-goer. Its sleek and clean design is accentuated by melange canvas and black denim accents that scream sophistication. If its excursion you crave, the Overnight Bag proves a worthy travel partner, capable of holding a weekend’s worth of clothing, shoes, accessories, or otherwise, with absolute ease — it even meets any domestic or international carry-on requirements. In addition to the classy Overnight Bag, the company also recently released what it’s calling the “ideal toiletry travel companion,” the Travel Dopp Kit. Available in either melange fabric or vegetable tanned leather, Hook & Albert’s Dopp kit excels in offering users incredible functionality in an extremely lightweight design that’s utterly stylish. Featuring three separate compartments for stored goods, owners have the ability to stash toiletries in either the large central rectangular pocket or in either of the two side zip flaps. With each boasting a level of quality that essentially assures they’ll be a part of anyone’s travel ensemble for years, Hook & Albert’s Travel Dopp Kit and Overnight Bag are must-haves for any avid traveler. Editors’ Recommendations Witness Antarctica’s 2021 Total Solar Eclipse on an Exclusive Cruise A Pop-Up Hotel Is Coming to the North Pole in 2020 The World’s 12 Most Grueling and Insane Endurance Races These days, getting to Antarctica is a virtual cake-walk — even your granny is probably fit enough to board a polar cruise. But, truly exploring the interior of the lost continent remains almost as difficult today as it was when Scott and Amundsen set out to “conquer” the South Pole in 1911. Several tour companies specializing in polar travel offer bespoke, once-in-a-lifetime journeys to relive the thrill of their adventures if you’re up to the task. Here are three of our favorites.Ski to the South Pole (Adventure Consultants)Every journey on Adventure Consultant’s menu of expeditions targets adventure travelers who feel as though they’ve already “done it all.” The company’s highly specialized itineraries include conquering the Seven Summits, tackling Mount Everest, crossing Greenland, and skiing to the South Pole. The latter — aptly named South Pole – All the Way — is a brutal, 62-day slog that would challenge even the heartiest polar traveler. What it lacks in technical difficulty (previous mountaineering experience is not required), it more than makes up for in sheer distance and environmental challenges. This is literally one of the harshest climates in the world. Travelers start in Punta Arenas, Chile, then hop two flights to the start of the journey. From Hercules Inlet, the 730-mile ski trek to the South Pole begins. There is no support vehicle and no mechanized assistance of any kind — explorers must carry all of their gear and essentials via sledge for the duration. Prices from $72,500 USD.Kite-Ski Ulvetanna in Queen Maud Land (Icetrek Polar Expeditions)For the man who has everything, including nearly $50,000 in disposable income, Icetrek Polar Expeditions offers a once-in-a-lifetime kite-skiing expedition to one of the lost continent’s most spectacular mountain ranges. Beginning in Cape Town, South Africa, expeditioners hop a late-night flight to ALCI Airbase in Antarctica. From there, it’s a full 16 days spent on the ice with up to two full weeks of kite-skiing in the rugged Drygalski Mountains toward the 9,600-foot peak of Ulvetanna (“The Wolf’s Tooth”) in Queen Maud Land. The continent’s dramatic landscape — including intense wind, snow, and a harsh, rocky terrain — provide the perfect backdrop for kite-skiing that’s unlike anywhere else on earth. Per-person rate: €39,950 (approximately $47,000 USD).“Road Trip” to the South Pole (Explorations Company)If all this leg-powered hiking and skiing and kiting seems like too much, well, work, Explorations Company offers something completely different. This November, the company will launch a driving expedition across Antarctica — literally, a “road trip” to the South Pole. After flying in on a rather imposing Russian Ilyushin-76 jet, expeditioners pack into 6×6 Toyota Hiluxes. The fleet of 19 purpose-built trucks is fitted with a specialized, freeze-proof fuel and a wealth of high-tech, cold weather kit thanks to Arctic Trucks (a company which outfitted Prince Harry with the means to reach the South Pole on his 2013 charity trip). The 1,150-mile journey takes ten days, although the unpredictable weather is the deciding factor. This is about as close to luxury camping as one can get given Antarctica’s landscape and climate. A chef prepares meat and carb-heavy meals each day, hot water bottles are available to help warm up sleeping bags, and the mobile camp is well-insulated against the cold. Still, the company insists this is an expedition and a difficult one at that. Per-person rate: $165,000 USD. Story Highlights The CRP is designed to address living conditions in communities island-wide Slated to be undertaken between November 2013 and January 2014 Phase one of the programme will entail Majesty Gardens, St. Andrew The phased roll out of the Community Renewal Programme (CRP), being implemented by the Planning Institute of Jamaica (PIOJ), is slated to be undertaken between November 2013 and January 2014.Director General of the PIOJ, Colin Bullock, who made the disclosure during the agency’s quarterly media briefing on Tuesday, August 27, said phase one of the programme will entail Majesty Gardens, St. Andrew, where the initiative is being undertaken as a pilot, and 18 other Corporate Area communities in the downtown Kingston developmental area. The CRP is a multifaceted programme, financed by the Government of Jamaica and international development partners, designed to address living conditions in communities island-wide, deemed the most socially problematic. It addresses community empowerment, housing, sanitation and waste disposal, economic opportunity, recreation, dispute resolution, crime, among other things.Mr. Bullock said the Majesty Gardens pilot is being used as the framework for designing model programmes to be undertaken in the other communities. These include: baseline studies being developed by the Jamaica Social Investment Fund (JSIF) for phase one, slated for completion in January 2014; on-going work to design community level interventions, earmarked for completion by September 30; and implementation of new programmes to be undertaken through the partial roll-out of phase one.The programme is a key component of the Government’s growth agenda for Jamaica, a detailed update of which is available on the PIOJ’s website at: www.pioj.gov.jm. “The generation of stronger economic growth is dependent, not only on successful policy implementation by Government, but also on active participation by a reinvigorated private sector, labour movement, non-government organizations and active community participation,” Mr. Bullock said.He stated that the recent signing of a social partnership agreement “creates a basis for a productive sharing of the burden of adjustment, the effort to enhance productivity and the distribution of benefits. We can only solve our problems if we move in step with each other.”
